Single released by the band, their first to use 4-track recording equipment. It was the first number 1 hit for the band in the US & is credited with starting “The British Invasion”. It was number 1 on the UK charts for five consecutive weeks, it would have entered at number one the day it was released, thanks to healthy advance sales, but had to wait two weeks to knock off the band’s previous UK single release, “She Loves You”. Entering the Hot 100 chart in the US at number 18, it was number 1 two weeks later & stayed there for seven weeks, remaining on the chart for an additional two months after that. Not to be outdone the b-side track “I Saw Her Standing There” would be on the Hot 100 chart 11 weeks, peaking at number 14. That song would hit number 1 in Canada. The single was certified gold in both the UK & the US.
